Building Department Information

The Town contracts with SAFEbuilt to conduct all building department activities.  Beginning January 1, 2026, the building department will require all building permit applications to be submitted online through SAFEbuilt's permit software.

To access the online permit system, the first step is to create an account in Community Core.  Once you've been provided access, you can apply for a permit, check the status of your permit, request inspections, upload documents, etc.   You can find resources for how to use Community Core here.

The Town of Lyons is on the 2021 International Code Council series of building codes, and the 2023 National Electric Code.  You can find free access to the codes at this here. The Town's local amendments may be found at this link to the Lyons Municipal Code.
