St Vrain Trail Extension

General Description of the project:

The Town of Lyons applied for and received CDOT funding for building a multimodal trail from the US-36 & McConnell Drive intersection to the US-36 & SH 66 junction.   The project is expected to be completed at the end of July 2025.  The high-level scope of the project will include approximately:

    1600’ of concrete trail, 10’ wide

    1900’ of crusher fine trail, 10' wide

    Two concrete box culverts

    One steel bridge

    Fencing


May 28, 2025  Update: Construction of the trail is nearing completion. Over the next few weeks the contractor will install fencing, railing, signage, and trail markings. These components are critical safety features, and as a result the trail will not be opened for public use until installation is complete. Please continue to avoid walking the trail until construction is completed. 

April 10 2025 update:  The concrete trail West of the Highland Ditch bridge is nearing completion. Construction activities for the remainder of April and beginning of May will include finishing the trail, grading shoulders, installing railing/fencing, and planting seed in areas with exposed earth. Trail is still not open for public use. Please continue to avoid walking the trail for your safety and the safety of our crews.
 
March 25 2025 update: The Highland Ditch bridge has been completed. The crusher fine trail east of the Highland Ditch is nearing completion and will be finished in early April. Construction activities in April will include earthwork grading along the trail shoulders, constructing the concrete trail west of the Highland Ditch, and installing pedestrian railing/fencing throughout the project.  Access roads/parking starting 200’ East of McConnell Dr. on the South side of US-36 (aka the “October/November hole”) are currently closed to keep construction crews safe. Additionally, the trail is not currently open for public use. Avoid accessing any portion of this trail for your safety and the safety of our crews.

March 3 2025 update: Construction is complete for both the Rough and Ready box culvert as well as the Palmerton Box culvert. The Highland Ditch bridge has been placed and construction will be complete within the next two weeks. Construction activities in March will include trail grading and construction as well as embankment work. 

Feb 2025 update: The Rough and Ready box culvert structure is nearing completion, and work will shift to focus on the Palmerton box culvert for the next 3 weeks. Work will continue on the Highland ditch crossing for the next 4-5 weeks. Work on the trail is anticipated to start in late February or early March.

January 16, 2025 – Work on the Rough and Ready box culvert will continue for the next 3 weeks. Work on the Palmerton ditch will continue for the next 3 to 5 weeks. Work on the Highland ditch crossing will continue until late February / early March.

January 2025 update: Work will continue on the Palmerton and Rough & Ready Ditch crossing box culverts for the next four to six weeks.  Starting this week, work will begin on the abutments for the Highland Ditch bridge.

December 2024 update:  Contractor has mobilized onsite.   Currently installing erosion control items and doing clearing and grubbing work.  Priority over the next two months is getting the box culverts built in the Palmerton and Rough and Ready ditches and get the abutments built for the Highland Ditch bridge.
