TABOR ELECTION NOTICE
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE THAT the Town of Lyons Board of Trustees have approved the submission of one (1) TABOR question at the April 2, 2024, Regular Municipal Election.
Amendment One (1992) to the Colorado Constitution requires a notice of the election to be mailed to all registered voters with certain information about the election and financial implications of the ballot question (TABOR notice). Part of the notice to be sent to electors must include summaries of written comments, up to 500 words each, one for and one against the proposal, filed with the election officer 45 days before the election.
The Town of Lyons hereby solicits written comments for and against the question listed below. Please address your comments to the Town Clerk, Town of Lyons, PO Box 49, Lyons, CO 80540.
Only comments filed by persons eligible to vote in the Town of Lyons will be summarized in the ballot notice. To be summarized in the ballot issue notice, the comments must:
• Address this specific ballot issue
• Indicate whether they are “for” or “against” the issue
• Must include a signature
• Address where the signer is registered to vote.
Written comments must be received no later than Friday, February 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.
The TABOR ballot Issue before the Town of Lyons on the April 2, 2024, Regular Municipal Election reads as follows:
TOWN OF LYONS BALLOT ISSUE #1
SHALL THE TOWN OF LYONS SALES TAXES BE INCREASED UP TO $250,000 IN THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR, AND BY WHATEVER AMOUNTS ARE RAISED ANNUALLY THEREAFTER BY AN ADDITIONAL SALES TAX IMPOSED AT A RATE OF HALF OF ONE PERCENT (.5%) FOR A NEW TOTAL LOCAL SALES TAX OF FOUR PERCENT (4.0%) TO PAY FOR INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS IN THE TOWN OF LYONS, AND SHALL THE TAX REVENUES COLLECTED:
- BE USED ONLY TO PAY FOR INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENTS AND MAINTENANCE SUCH AS, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, STREET IMPROVEMENTS, SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS, STORMWATER UTILITY IMPROVEMENTS, AND ELECTRIC UNDERGROUNDING; AND
- BE RETAINED IN A SEGREGATED FUND SEPARATE FROM OTHER TOWN OPERATING FUNDS;
AND SHALL THE RESULTING REVENUE AND INVESTMENT EARNINGS THEREON BE COLLECTED, RETAINED, AND SPENT BY THE TOWN NOTWITHSTANDING THE LIMITS OF ARTICLE X, SECTION 20 OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION OR ANY OTHER LAW?

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024 the Lyons Recorder and the Redstone Review will be hosting a candidate forum, from 5:30 - 8 pm, at the Lyons Regional Library. The public is welcome to ask candidates about any issues of importance to Lyons residents with respect to the April 2, 2024 municipal election. The public is welcome to join in person or virtually via zoom.
The event will be recorded if you are unable to attend.
