Current Call to Artists: Broadway Annex Building Mural
The Town of Lyon Arts and Humanities Commission(LAHC), with support from the Lyons Community Foundation, Cemex and the Boulder County Arts Alliance is issuing a Request for Proposal (RFP) inviting artists to create a public mural as part of the Town’s mission to nurture and celebrate arts and culture in Lyons.
The mural will be on a privately owned building, with the “canvas” of approximately 26 wide X 9 Feet tall. This building is on a very prominent location along the main thoroughfare, with thousands of visitors traveling from points north, including Rocky Mountain National Park, as well as on a busy pedestrian walking area.
The concept for this commission is to tell a story of Lyons important to our cultural or historical identity. Ideas might include our Native American history with three main tribes (Ute, Arapaho and Cheyenne) having originated in Lyons. It might also tell a story of other aspects of Lyons cultural history including natural beauty, music, and creative expression. The artwork aspires to engage the visual experience and sense of place for residents and tourists.
The budget for this project is $4500 and will include artist design, building prep and painting, and treatment of the finished work. Submissions will be accepted until June 20, 2025 and will be reviewed by the LAHC. Artists will be notified by July 15, 2025. The work is expected to be completed by October 31, 2025.
Detailed design sketches, description of past mural/public art experience, and an artist statement may be submitted here: Mural Application
