Ice Skating at LaVern M. Johnson Park
THE ICE RINK IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE SEASON. PLEASE STAY OFF THE MELTING ICE AND FIELD. THANK YOU!
The Town of Lyons ice rink is completely weather dependent and may be affected by temperatures above freezing and other weather such as snow, rain, or even wind. Surface conditions are checked regularly by staff and public safety is our primary concern. Staff and volunteers will clear and resurface the ice regularly and attempt to keep the facility open according to posted hours.
The ice rink will be closed if temperatures exceed 45 degrees. The rink may also be closed during a snow or rain event, heavy winds or severe cold. Staff may also need to close the rink for a variety of maintenance reasons. Please remember that the surface is relatively small and, depending on the number of users, may need frequent maintenance.
If you are interested in renting ice skates, rentals will be available at the LaVern M. Johnson Park Concession Stand on Saturdays, from noon to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 3 - 7 p.m. whenever the ice rink is open. Rentals are cash or check only.
Information about ice skate lessons can be found HERE
During the winter months, the enclosed grassy area in the west portion of LaVern M. Johnson Park is converted into a community ice rink! The weather-dependent rink is made from the adjacent St. Vrain Creek water. The rink is completely reliant on weather, as the Town does not have a chiller to maintain the ice. While the Parks and Public Works teams provide general maintenance, ice conditions are not guaranteed, and users should use always caution when skating. Skating and any use of the rink is at the user's own risk. Helmets (ski or bike) are also highly recommended!
The ice rink hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, weather permitting. Users may rent skates from the concession stand (information below) or use their own. Skating is free; however, the vehicle parking fees are enforced daily in LaVern Johnson Park.
Ice Rink Usage Schedule
Refer to the following table for the usage schedule of the LaVern M. Johnson Park Ice Rink.
Please be aware of the skill level and safety of others while skating, and please do not play hockey during family recreational skating hours.
