Official Communications from the Town of Lyons
Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code Board

Wildfire Resiliency Meeting
Thursday, Oct 30 at 7 pm

The Board of Trustees invites residents of Lyons to a town hall style open house at the Lyons Regional Library on Thursday, October 30 from 7-8 pm, regarding the State and local Wildfire Resiliency Code updates, along with community input to help encourage a more resilient wildfire community for homeowners and residents of Lyons. The Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code is a draft document detailing regulations for construction and property maintenance in wildland-urban interface areas (such as Lyons), aiming to safeguard life and property from wildfires. Its core purpose is to mitigate the risks associated with wildland fires, specifically by preventing fire from spreading into structures and preventing structure fires from spreading to wildland fuels. Bring your input and ideas for the BOT to consider.

Construction at LMJ Park

Streambank Improvements
at LaVern M Johnson Park

During the month of October

In spring 2023, the North St. Vrain saw its highest runoff flows since the 2013 flood. While the creek held up well overall, several sections of the streambank inside of LaVern M Johnson Park need repair to ensure visitor safety and prevent further erosion. Beginning in mid-October, crews will reinforce those banks with stacked Lyons sandstone boulders and restore any areas disturbed during construction.

The sandstone itself comes with a unique story—boulders excavated from the Lyons Valley Townhomes housing development were donated to the Town and will now be repurposed for this project. They are currently stored at the Public Works facility on Ute Highway.

Work is expected to last into November. During this time, some areas of the park will be closed to the public for safety. We appreciate your patience as we make these important improvements to protect both the riverbank, the park and its visitors.

Level 3 Fast Charging Station

Work continues through October

Utilizing funding from a federal energy grant, the Town is working with a contractor to install a level 3- fast charging station near the corner of 3rd and Railroad Ave. A typical Level 3 charger can add 60–200+ miles of range in 20–30 minutes, depending on the car and charger.

Utility work has already begun along Railroad Ave along the southern edge of Sandstone Park. There will be small road closures along Railroad Ave as the equipment arrives for placement.
