The Boulder County Office of Disaster Management and the Town of Lyons are providing residents with this update regarding the Stone Canyon Wildfire.
Stone Canyon Wildfire Updates -
- Priority #1 is human life, to keep people safe and out of danger.
- Acres: approximately 1,350 (estimated). Airplanes will measure the area again later today. Containment: 0%. No update yet on any containment.
- Priority is to shore up the southern and western edge of the wildfire zone, where more homes are located.
- Winds are light and fire did not grow very much overnight. Humidity is very low and conditions are expected to worsen this afternoon..
- The weather continues to be an issue, its dry and will continue to be hot
- Over 200 emergency personnel from various districts are helping.
- State resources have been fully deployed. The fire has had a lot of air support and firefighters worked all night to keep a strong fire line.
- Buses are staged at LifeBridge Church in Longmont should Lyons residents need help with evacuation transportation. Should you need to be evacuated and do not have transportation, please call the non-emergency number 303.441.4444
- Air quality continues to be a concern. If you have indoor A/C it is recommended to keep it on and windows closed.
- Residents should continue to watch boulderodm.gov for more information about the fire. Text BocoInfo to 888777 to sign up for updates.
- At this time, the road closure at US-36 and SH-66 has been lifted. Keep in mind it can also change again very quickly based on public safety.
- Evacuation orders have been lifted for areas within the Town limits except for residents in Stone Canyon. Unincorporated areas with evacuations still remain in place.
- One fatality has been confirmed. Five structures have been impacted.
- Parks in Lyons are currently closed for the day, July 31, 2024 and staff will re-evaluate late this afternoon.
- Stay prepared Lyons.Wildfires can change quickly. Be sure to have all your devices fully charged. Have a 'GO BAG' ready. Review the wildfire evacuation checklist.
- We anticipate sending another update later this afternoon/early evening.
- Stay safe Lyons and continue to look out for each other.
