Earth Day Events for Lyons

Sunday, April 21
Monday, April 22 & April 29

The Town of Lyons will be hosting several Earth Day events at Bohn Park on Sunday, April 21 from 11 am - 2 pm.  We will start the day with a community river clean up, at Bohn Park from 9 am - 11 am. Please meet at the Bohn Park pavilion if you plan to volunteer. We will have supplies, some gloves and work with volunteers to disperse into certain areas that could use some attention.

Later that morning, join us for a concert by Jeff & Paige from 11 am - noon about all things earth related! We plan to have art activities for the kids as well as local booths and representatives providing fun and educational activities on how to live more sustainably, as well as a tour of the Rocky Mountain Botanic Garden in Lyons.  The weather looks like it will cooperate for both the river clean up and the earth day events!

On Monday, April 22, at 7 pm, the Sustainable Future Commission will be presenting the movie "Honeyland" at the Lyons Regional Library as part of their sustainable earth educational series. Local resident Ben Rodman will be hosting a Q & A about beekeeping after the film. Ben has kept bees since 2011 and has provided colony rescue and removal services for several years. He's introduced several of our local beekeepers to the hobby via classes at the Lyons Farmette, contributed to citizen science projects such as NASA's hive scale project, and has been active in local affairs and sustainability since moving to Lyons in 2000.

One week later, on Monday, April 29, at 7 pm, the Ecology Advisory Board will present the PBS documentary,  Western Water and Power, at the Lyons Regional Library.  Sean Cronin, Executive Director of the St Vrain & Left Hand Water Conservancy District will host a Q & A after the film.

Bike Feasibility Study

US-36 Bikeway to Boulder
Feasibility Study

Tuesday, April 30, 2024 6 - 7:30 pm

On Tuesday, April 30th from 6 pm -- 7:30 pm, Boulder County staff and representatives will be hosting a community input session at the Lyons Regional Library regarding their bike feasibility study from Lyons to Boulder.

The purpose of North Foothills Bikeway Feasibility Study is to determine the feasibility of a bikeway along US. 36/North Foothills Highway that is separated from motorized vehicle traffic. The study is looking at the 11 miles between the City of Boulder and the Town of Lyons.

The study focuses on land that is within CDOT right-of-way. The Boulder County Transportation Planning Division is working with CDOT, County Parks and Open Space, the City of Boulder, and the Town of Lyons on the study.

The purpose of the bikeway is to improve safety and comfort for cyclists of all ages. This road has more crashes that involve cyclists than any other road in unincorporated Boulder County. The most common type of fatal or major Injury bicycle crashes are caused by a motorist rear ending a cyclist.  A bikeway providing separation from motor vehicles would decrease or eliminate this type of crash on US 36/North Foothills Highway. The bikeway could also provide increased access to trails and connections to popular cycling routes along the corridor.
